My Connections to Play

Favorite quotes about play
“Imagination is more important than knowledge.” Albert Einstein
This quote is especially true of my childhood. Growing up, I had an imaginary friend named David Wilson. He was my buddy and "lived" down the street from me. When I was around 4 years of age, my aunt brought me a doll from Germany. We named the doll David Wilson and from then on I no longer had an imaginary friend. Even though my friend was no longer with me, I still had a great imagination, playing hours alone. My daughter has a fabulous imagination and I love to hear her chatting to herself. She does not have an imaginary friend, but she does have David Wilson...

"A girl is Innocence playing in the mud, Beauty standing on its head, and Motherhood dragging a doll by the foot." Allan Beck

I believe that last quote sums up my childhood. I loved "Barbie", baby dolls and playing in the mud equally.  I played outside for hours--I would even play dolls in the back of my dad's truck.

My favorite past time would be the "Barbie" doll. I had many dolls and my Grandmother would sew outfits for my many "Barbie" dolls. Some of my favorite memories are playing at my Grandparents house with my aunt's vintage "Barbie" dolls. I now share the dolls with my little girl.
